I can't speak about Mr. Mips or Simon Moon (other than to say that's one
good choice of names), but I can say without fear of contradiction that
Mic Mell has been pumping out some good jams lately.
The stuff he's been making for his upcoming Future Funk Collective album
has been outstanding, especially considering the number of collaborators
he's chosen to take on for it. If you can imagine J5 style hip hop with
square wave production ala buzz, you're getting close. It's really
accessible, and yet still it brings the groove. A little out of the IDM
realm, in some ways, but still, quite good.
I've had the pleasure of playing with him and A-scissors as well;
A-scissors has a kind of understated sound that belies the complexity of
his programming. Whenever I see a cat set up a bunch of solid-state
gear, I prepare myself for a lot of default patches and 4/4 beats, but
A-scissors is an exception. His stuff is a little on the ambient side,
but not so much as to put you to sleep. He uses his samplers to good
effect as well.
If I was going to be in ATL, I'd totally be at this show.

MIC MELL of Nophi Recordings returns to Atlanta for another night of
quality IDM and lite-hop, certain to make you feel good and make you
move. A man of extremes, shuffling between prolific output and
hysterical inertia, he creates a lively feel that runs parallel to its
processed programming and groovy tweaks, twitches and tenacity. Big
production and thoughful stylization.
A-SCISSORS presents an in your face, experiential version of NewDM
performed without a personal computer (imagine that!), bangin on
hardware sequences and outboard synths.
SIMON MOON hails from east of the "Glenwood Connector" and makes his
public debut with a fast paced set of cut up drum and pusher, sweet
synth lines and live bass guitar performance all at once!
SO PO (DJ Ben Lawless from Eastern Developments and KIRKWOOD BALLERS
CLUB) will provide a southern education of underground hip-hop,
featuring Screw, Bounce, Booty, Shake, Thug and other emerging styles
from Atlanta, Miami, Houston, N'Orleans and therebouts. You have never
heard the majority of his set cause most has yet to hit the radio, etc.
He will hold it down all night, providing the beginnins, ends, and all
in-betweens. SO PO lives somewhere between Arkwright and Kirkwood
listening to ghetto birds all day and just had his battery stolen from
his car. He is ready for a party and needs it.
