for those of you in the williamsburg, brooklyn, ny vicinity this weekend, who might also be low on cash, there is something going on that might interest you. while various artists get tagged as "folktronica", no one can quite decide what it is (like a lot of genres, i guess). ironically, when i first heard the term, my band was already at work on our CD that blended the "apocalyptic folk" we'd been working on with a more electronica-sounding rhythmic structures, albeit still informed by our industrial/ambient background. this is the combination that's worked out best for our current live incarnation. for those who like chilling out while laptop musicians tweak things and abstract visuals are projected, there's another act on earlier you might like. SATURDAY, MAY 29 11pm: DREAM INTO DUST Acoustic guitar, effect loops, and electronic percussion carry the emotive tenor vocals of Derek Rush. The trio also features experimental guitarist Bryin Dall (Loretta's Doll; Genesis P-Orridge's Thee Majesty; backing experiments for Michael Gira's Angels Of Light) and bassist Fredric Stesney. Since 1997, three CDs, two 7' singles, and numerous compilation tracks have been released and distributed by Misanthropy, World Serpent, Middle Pillar, Athanor, and others. The live show currently focuses on the band's dark folk side, filled in with industrialized beats, driving bass, and washes of ambient noise. http://www.dreamintodust.com 10pm: SHOKO NAGAI (electric and acoustic pianos) + ADAM KENDALL (laptop sounds and processing.) + AL GRIFFIN (video mixing) -- experimental, warm, improvised music and video. http://www22.ocn.ne.jp/~hot-jazz/ http://www.hellbender.org DJs Abstract and Princess Coldheart spin mutated drum'n'bass, downtempo, ambient noise, drift, illbient, and post-industrial. Additional video manipulations by Adam Kendall and Al Griffin all night. http://www.dogsbloodrising.org The Lucky Cat, 245 Grand St., Williamsburg, Brooklyn. http://www.theluckycat.com 10pm-4am $3 entry $4 Wells 18+ to enter, 21+ to drink. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
