I finally listened through the Squarepusher album the other day. I've never really been a fan of his, but he has done some interesting things so I thought I'd check it out. First impression- wankery, wankery, wankery, wankery. If you like bass giutar solos, then this is the album for you. It's not for me. I really love the two really hard fast intense tracks on there (tracks 6 and 8 I think?) and if he made an entire album like those two it would be one of my all time faves. But that's only like 10% percent of the album. The rest is his best Billy Sheehan/ Geddy Lee/Les Claypool imitations. No thanks.

Bleeeeeeech. The new Squarepusher is ~~awful~~, imo. This week, last week, next week, next year: it's terrible for all-time. He's lost the 'beat'. The new mu-Ziq is far better, and it's older material anyway: Kid Spatula - 'Meast' (2xCD; Planet Mu). If one must listen to the idm dinosaurs, the least that one can do is to lend one's ear to a ~fun~ fossil. seek np: Matthew Dear - 'Leave Luck to Heaven' (Ghostly) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
