MATTHEW DEAR -The Showman
Anthropology major and natural-born Texan, Dear is the
original influence
for Ghostly International. Dear is not only a
co-founder of the Ghostly
International company, but also a stunning producer,
DJ and folk musician.
Matthew Dear's most recent excursions have found him
at the doorsteps of the
minimal-but-funky regime of techno music. Inspired by
pioneers like, Mike
Inc., Thomas Brinkmann, and Ricardo Villalobos, Dear
has ingested,
manipulated and re-introduced his version of this
always changing and
innovative realm of sound creation. Recent acceptance
into the legendary
Plus 8 roster and ever-popular Berlin based, Perlon
label has solidified
Dear as a viable source for pushing the boundaries of
modern dance music
while at the same time remaining focused on the simple
goal of making people
dance.
Matthew Dear has just finished a European tour, and a
full-length album is
expected soon on Ghostly International. His September
live performance will
be his second time in front of a Miami crowd, the
first of which was a dj
set at the Miami-Detroit BBQ during WMC 2003.
SUTEKH - The Master at Work
Since 1997, San Francisco based Sutekh has released
consistently
inconsistent electronic music on local and
international labels Force
Inc./Mille Plateaux, Source, Background, Plug
Research, Orthlong Musork,
Cytrax/Delay, Tektite, and his own Context, which he
established with
Context Free Media in 1999. Manipulating computers,
samplers, synthesizers,
ping pong tables, Scrabble pieces, and found sounds,
he has created
everything from minimal house and techno to dense,
dissonant noise collage.
Unable to explain his reasons for making such music,
he blankets himself
with sarcasm. People often have a difficult time
deciding whether or not he
is serious.
In his live sets, Sutekh keeps a keen ear to the
dancefloor, evident in
solid grooves and tech-house rhythms, but bypassing
the traditional sound
sources of techno?s conventions and opting for an
almost avant-garde
approach to the tracks. We expect no less for his
performance this
September in Miami, his first, and long-overdue
appearance here.
