At Mutek, it was Peter Christopherson on Ableton Live
and Thighpaulsandra playing a keyboard live. The setup
had their gear on a long table with one end facing the
audience, so that Christopherson was on the right and
Thighpaulsandra was on the left. Both came out in head
to toe (including headcoverings) white furry suits.
Christopherson kept his headcovering on the whole time,
whereas Thighpaulsandra pulled his headcovering off
after the second song or so. Set started with
Thighpaulsandra saying "hello, we are Coil" and saying
some nice things about Mutek and finishing with "We
were Coil" and more nice things. Thighpaulsandra
slowed walked around the stage on two different
occasions. The music was great, but unfortunately the
sound quality was such that the bass was farty at
times. I was told that night that it was because I had
been listening from in the balcony at the Metropolis,
but when Hawtin and the rest played the same venue
later in the week, the bass was clear in every part of
the venue, even in the bathroom. Christopherson kept
building up the rhythms, but kept things controlled
such that things never peaked. Thighpaulsandra played
a lot at times, while other times just added fills.
Have never seen Coil live before, so can't compare, but
am a big fan from way back and was great to finally see
