Hey All,
I've been lurking here for quite awhile...but after
all these posts I had to add my two cents. There is no
way of getting around the fact that downloading music
(especially full albums) is wrong. However, I believe
there are many cases where downloading mp3's is
alright. The first case would be remixes...nobody has
brought this up yet! I for one do not have great
income and I can barely afford to buy a few releases a
month..if that. There's no way I could buy every
release with an Autechre remix. So, do I just never
get to hear these remixes...or do I download them?
On that same note, I think it's really hard for IDM
fans because so much good music continues to come out
and most people cannot afford to purchase all the
releases they want. So, they download some and buy
others, instead of missing out on some. I think this
is alright as long as the person is not cutting back
on music purchases that they'd normally make.
Anyways, it's a problem that isn't going to
stop...and record labels will have to find ways to
work around it (adding DVD's and special features).
So, anyone in going to the WARP show in Chicago???
Message me off list if you are!!!
Later,
Don
