I've been really fascinated by Venetian Snares lately. He really has something I can't pin down that makes his music stand out from the run-of-the-mill drill & bass hardcore noise crowd. He seems in a lot of cases to have left behind any sort of steady meter and gone into free jazz territory. While that sort of crazy splatter-painting approach can just sound confusing and irritating, he always seems to make something that holds together on it's own terms and put across some feeling to the listener. And I'm continually surpised when I listen, even though the broad detail of his methods are not that mysterious. http://www.planet-mu.com/artist21.html Along similar lines, look for stuff by Stuntrock. Stuntrock, who released a split with V.Snares a long while back, is a favorite son of the whole midwest breaks/noise/grindcore son, who is continually inventive and hilarious. BIlly hasn't really been discovered pre se and isn't very ambitious so his stuff is much harder to track down, but worth it. Particularly a CD called 'Regret' is mindbogglingly cool.
