I actually have no problem with their programming. I don't expect major
corporations like this one to give much coverage to truly underground music
of any sort. And I actually like some popular and non-eletronic music, and
often tune in to www.theiceberg.com to listen to some of their jazz,
50s/60s and 80s stations.
What I *do* have a problem with is major corporations taking supposedly
"underground" & "anti-corporate" stances in order to seem hip or cool. Do
you really think that Sirius' stance here is anything more than a publicity
stunt? They've printed up 11 MILLION of these "manifestoes" according to
their press release. It's marketing, pure and simple.
It's like Nike opening an "underground" nightclub in the area of town where
lots of punks, artists & other freaks live and hang out (which is exactly
what happened here in Toronto last summer). I view it as an insult to the
underground artists, small-scale promoters, and ultra-indie record labels
that ARE working at the street level, fighting to be heard through the
barrage of corporate-sponsored garbage that is being thrown at people from
every direction.
But I'm just a crazy anti-corporate commie pinko, so don't mind me...
