Yeah, and they do need a bit of info if they're not investigating the
claimants. For instance, some people on the list may remember the
Schwanz salmonella ice cream debacle in '94. I actually got
salmonella from their ice cream, and as thus, was able to be a
claimant. Of course, I was under 18 at the time, so me mum had to do
it, but she had to give them her personal info to make sure she
didn't try to get more than our "fair share" out of it. Ended up
with 80 bucks for our trouble, too :)
Now, if you needed to show receipts or other stuff, they obviously
wouldn't need as much personal info, since you're giving them another
piece of ID for you.
