I totally agree. Luckily I think other "genre's" (speaking loosely here,
just as genre might be explored within teh realm of house and it's millions
of sub sub sub genres) have sprung up to accept the many spillovers that
just had no other place to "fit" years ago...

Yeah I agree, but I've been on the "art" band waggon for so long that it's
hard for me to really know what is and isn't pretentious (just personally
speaking). That said, I think it's probably better to have an ideological
standpoint as well as some assertive conceptual frame work for your music
than to NOT have one! I guess I figure it's always better to strive to make
multi-leveled music than to try to make music that just hits one one way...
