I didn't have a chance to tell her but she is the thinking man's joan jett. She is a post-drum-machine drummer, meaning she can play a wicked disco beat and keep it robotic tight. They really do remind me a lot of early ramones, talking heads, b-52s all rolled into one. Very much a new-wave revival band, but focusing on the punkier end of the spectrum. If they go to England, they'll be the darlings of the rock press, because they have that out-of-nowhere snotty appeal. They also fit into a spectrum with groups like the Hives, who go back to late-60s garage punk for their style theivery, but Numbers is way dumber and more fun. Not IDM of course, but whatever. I find the more acts I see that are really players, the weaker the computer only stuff sounds. By the way, anyone who wants me to come play, I'm doing a totally live sampling show these days. I sing, I beatbox, I play guitar, beer bottles, hand percussion, rip paper and make a total ass of myself. It all goes into the computer and comes out fucked up. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
