hi and welcome to emoticon's november update.

pressing delay. this heavyweight deep house / techno / broken beat hybrid
from london-based production duo simon haggis and kevin long (with remix
included from label founder tom churchill) has been getting some great
reactions from all quarters of the scene - check out some audio samples (if
you haven't already) using the links in 'release details' below.
following this, in december we'll be releasing our first cd-only

michigan's double helix to look forward to. as usual, full information and
audio samples will appear on the soon-to-be-redesigned website in due course.
finally, in other news, tom churchill releases a solo ep of deep and jazzy

KLaSH productions are london-based musician kevin long and dj simon haggis.
their first work together was a release on hiptonic with robert owens in
2000, with their dub receiving praise from a wide range of djs from laurent
garnier to colin dale. more recently, through simon's day job at strut
records, the awa-band releases came to his attention, and the collaborative
'awa-KLaSH' project was born. originally a traditional nigerian song,
'akoba' was transformed into a slamming hammond workout, picked up on by
new york's danny krivit, and recently released on francois k's respected
wave label after becoming a body & soul anthem over the summer. other
unreleased KLaSH material has been picked up on by various radio djs
including gilles peterson on his worldwide-syndicated radio 1 show, and
jeannie hopper on wbai in new york.
emoticon is proud to present KLaSH's 'scopex' a long & deep cut which
combines influences from new york, detroit, and london sound system
culture. It's probably emoticon's most dancefloor-friendly release to date,
built around a heavily percussive house groove with deep bass, dubby fx and
sweeping string chords. on the flip, label founder tom churchill
contributes a remix with more of a broken beat feel, keeping the
distinctive strings intact while adding synth melodies and rhodes stabs to
the equation.

icons: volume one is emoticon's first cd release. it's an essential
collection of highlights from our previously vinyl-only back catalogue and
it's been designed as both a comprehensive introduction to the label for
those new to it and a vital roundup of the best bits for those who've
already succumbed to its charms. all of rmoticon's key artists are present
and correct, showcasing the full range of musical styles that have surfaced
on the label.
