Nope, still software. Based on sampling and sequencing those samples
directly, without any midi. Somewhat tough to get into based on the
hex code used for most of it, but once you get into the mindset
properly, they're pretty slick for bangin' out tracks.
Obviously since they're sample based they work much better for
percussion than melody, which is also why most of the artists
mentioned as tracker users are much more complex with their
percussion than with their (rather simple) melodies.
