:: I don't know if this has been done before, but do :: people remember their 'first time' listening to IDM? Good topic.. My bro mentioned to me back in 1990 or so to look into this band called "Meat Beat Manifesto".. soon after grabbing 'Radio Babylon/Helter Skelter' i was hooked. Next in the line-up were releases by Baby Ford, Acid Horse, PTP, PWEI, 808 State, Fusion (aka Plastikman), Cabaret Voltaire, and the string keeps tangling from thereon. During this whole time, we'd both head thru the border into Detroit to a record store called 'Record Time' to sift through all the (now classic) 12"s by labels and artists such as Probe, +8, Model 500, No UFO's, Messiah, FSOL, WaxTrax, Soiree, Orb, LOGM, Alkahest, more MBM, UR, Front 242, Altern8, AI Vol.1 (early Warp inc/ Ae), (Detroit radio inc/ Chuck Horn Show), Brave New Waves (Montreal), Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Craig, Depeche Mode, NiN, Post Contemporary, Fred Giannelli, DHS.. and several others.. --those were the days.. With all that out of the way, it's always interesting to see the path that these artists and labels have carved for today.. come to think of it, it's refreshing to go back to some of these releases to re-listen and to appreciate the sheer magnitude and influence they've had on our ears over the years..
