Let me begin by saying I got Voile last night by special import
envoy, immediately transferred it to cassette (how quaintly archaic)
for my morning jog by the sea, and thus, this grey misty morning I
had my first taste of one of my favourite's new material.
Further, I should add that currently FYUTI holds tied first, second
and third places in my 2002 top 10... so it's with high expectations
that I approached Voile, well aware that it is released under an
alias as well as on the Peacefrog label, which might be clear signs
of a different direction.
I really do not wish to be less than effusively ecstatic about this,
BUT (you knew there was a 'but' coming :-)) I guess I was hoping to
lose myself in Bola's majestic sweeping orchestrated epic journeys
and this album is of a different stripe. He is still the complete
aural master and places each sound exactly where he means it to be,
nothing random.
Maybe I'm not quite as accepting of the backbone of crunchy glitch-
beats coming from Mr Fitton as I would have been were they coming
from anybody else. That's entirely MY fault, I know that - and it's
not as though all I'm looking for is gentle whale sounds as mental
massage while I gaze into a lit candle to the wafting incense of
aroma-therapy oils, but I've been spoit by the beauty of Soup and
FYUTI, opening the gate to wonderous late-night headphone
experiences.
Agreed, Brian - "Lungbone" is stunning. Although not the only
standout - and I'm sure that with repeat listening I shall come to
love this album more.
As for the vocal tracks ... smiles go to the line:

In secret I ignore you"
