Nope. It's both a software and a hardware thing - those 90/99 minuted CDRs
still say they're 80 minutes discs in their ATIP record; it's just
nowadays you can urge quite a load of drives/cd recording programs to just
continue burning when they're crossing the 80 minute mark - that gives you
a few extra MB on regular discs and a whopping 10/19 minute bonus on the
specially manufactured 90/99 min discs.
(In fact, I'm currently burning a 90 min CDR... :)

Ummm... yes, they are - it's called "DVD+/-R[W]". 4,5 GB ain't that
shabby.
