Hello all, here's what's new:
Remote Viewer-"Here I go on my own"- City Center Offices- A really great
album! Best "IDM" album of the moment...
Com.A-"we are the pervert" and 19-T "APA" compilation- Both of these
compilations (of remixes in the first case) seem to me to be pointing to a
whole new movement in electronic music happening in Japan. Whatever was
started by Joseph Nothing and Com.A seems to have been picked up by tons of
Japanese artists. Very impressed by this sort-of-"new"-sound! Very
aggressive and noisy and fast! Anyone care to comment?
Army of the 23 Monkeys- "Down the Rabbit Hole- Mad Monkey. I think it's a
comp but the first song is 14 minutes long with some prog-ish tendencies but
has lots of processing and some very distorted electro-ish beats with a few
amen portions sprinkled throughout, the "rest" of the album flows similarly.
Very interesting release.
Takeo Toyama- Hello 88- Another REALLY good album, I have never heard of
this feller. Sounds like a smart cross of Gastr Del Sol, Tortoise, slow
Cyclob, and Brian Wilson. Very surprising, very interesting balance of real
instruments to computer/electronics. SMART!
Dave Grubbs- "Rickets and Scurvy" Drag city/Fatcat another brilliant record.
With so many great records around it's been fighting for space on the CD
player. Drew and Martin add some laptop stuff to the primarily guitar
driven record, but this one finds Grubb's back in fine form, similar to the
later Gastr Del Sol records.
Masonic comp- Hymen. 2 CD?s or 4 vinyl set. That's allot of music! Only a
few slightly boring pieces among stellar works by people both established
and unheard of. Lots of DSP'd beats and a surprising amount of
experimentation. My man END continues to kick arse (he was on the Planet Mu
comp a few months back) Joined by Xanopticon, Solar-X and Black Lungs, but
that's only the beginning with this one. Best bang for your buck!
comments? feedback?
