title: THE ACCIDENT CAUSER format: 12" EP label: ERSATZ AUDIO cat#: EZ-019 tracklist: A1. domination A2. the accident causer B1. tolex B2. dark matter INFO: Lowfish is relentless. Continuous beats and pulses nervously persist, bouncing on the surface, while driving arpeggios and lush electronic melodies sink in. A master at structure, Lowfish keeps the compulsory head nodding consistent through his work, while scientifically degenerating from any sense of unnecessary repetition. Here with "The Accident Causer" ep, Lowfish delivers 4 new exclusive songs, specifically written for Ersatz Audio. Deviating enough from his signature sound, while still maintaining his sensibilities that are unmistakably Lowfish, this ep fits perfectly in the Ersatz Audio lexicon, from "Dark Matter's" dance floor devasting bassline arpeggio to "Domination's" impeccably tasteful vocoder line (the first vocoder line to rival Skinny Puppy's masterpiece of vocoder work on "Warlock"). Be prepared to be pulverized by exactness. MORE INFO: http://www.ersatzaudio.com/html/disco/ez019.html ---> COMING APRIL 16 2002 (new release date confirmed):

Hot on the heels of his recent 12" for Detroit's Ersatz Audio label, Lowfish (aka Gregory De Rocher) returns to Suction Records for "Maintain the Tension," a new 6-track EP of precision drum machine electropop. This is Suction014. The title refers to a certain set of glorious knobs on one of Lowfish's prized vintage synthesizers, but we won't bore you with the details.... Lowfish's recent output has taken a turn towards dance-floor-friendly electro, but don't be scared of Lowfish's dj-friendly beats! This is classic Suction robot pop, and Lowfish's rich & timeless synthpop melodies make these clubhits more akin to Depeche Mode circa 1981, than to Gigolo Records circa 2002, that's for certain. "Speak and Spell" comparisons aside, this is utterly modern electronic dancemusic that is beautiful, engaging, & beyond trends. Forget Electroclash, this is Electroclass! Robot music from Canada. Thankyougoodbye. ---> COMING AUGUST 27 2002:

title: VENDETTA E.P. format: CDep/12" cat#: suction015 cd/12" tracklist: 1/A1: reasons 2/A2: words 3/A3: garden 4/B1: quiet life (g.d.x.mix) 5/B2: metawelt INFO: tba ___________________________________________________________________ SECTION-003: SKANFROM "hand-picked fragments" press -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- SUCTION's most recent release, "hand-picked fragments" by SKANFROM, has received some very nice reviews (thank you!)... here's 2 of our favorites: Mixer magazine (USA): What is it? The first full-length album by closeted electro lover Skanfrom. Should I buy it? That Toronto's Suction imprint grabbed Hand-Picked Fragments is a feather in their analog preservationist cap; this is rudimentary electro pop at its finest. Forget digging up your old Kraftwerk or tossing on your Adult 12"s; Skanfrom, like Suction artists / co-owners Solvent and Lowfish, makes love music for your old Atari and Commodore machines collecting dust in the attic. "Phon Sweet Phon" mocks the mechanical throb of Vangelis' Chariots of Fire, sticks to the electrical wiggles and wobbles that compliment the artificiality of such rigidly executed music. "Phon A," on the other hand, shows how electro has matured since the early '80s, with delicate notes undulating up and down an arpeggio like the early melodic works of ?-Ziq. For fans of: Anthony Rother, Solvent, Human League Essential Tunes: "Cashier 2," "Phon A," "Synthetic" Rating: 8 out of 10 Exclaim! paper (Canada): "Hand Picked Fragments" is just that: pieces of raw musical ideas via a synthesis of electro-styles. This album is nowhere near as energetic, pop melodic or refined as Suction's founders, rather one might call Skannfrom "Solvent and Lowfish light." "Hand Picked..." is not without its charm; it is very cute and quirky, in a lonely electronic bedroom producer kind of way. Songs like "Frozen Milk" and "Sleeping Cat" convey a preoccupation with mundane events. Robot vocals, like on "Confused Machines," spill through the album like cryptic free verse utterances to musical jingles. A nice, sweet electronic music sketchbook. ___________________________________________________________________ SECTION-004: new SUCTION RECORDS sublabel: TAPE RECORDINGS -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- SUCTION RECORDS is pleased to announce the creation of a new sublabel, called TAPE RECORDINGS, which will be launched later this year. TAPE RECORDINGS is SOLVENT's new brainchild, created to faciliate a release that he's been planning in his head since 1999, when he was given a CDR dub of an LP called "The Absence of A Canary" by CERAMIC HELLO. SOLVENT has long been a collector of early '80s synthpop, but he had never come across or even heard of this obscure 1981 MANNEQUIN RECORDS release from Burlington, Ontario (Canada). Sounding like a lo-fi, slightly morose take on John Foxx's seminal "Metamatic" LP, SOLVENT was intrigued, and after several more listens, hooked! SOLVENT resolved to re-issue this gem, and in 2002 he finally managed to make contact with CERAMIC HELLO & MANNEQUIN RECORDS, and the deal is now underway.... So why the sublabel? Well, whereas SUCTION represents an idealised, modernised, and ultra-tight revision on synthpop (we call it Robot Music), TAPE RECORDINGS will focuss on a more primitive, crass form of synthpunk (DIY). The name is a reference to an analog recording format that has been largely abandonned, but that is still prefered by many due to the musically pleasing quality of its own inherent imperfections. The music on TAPE RECORDINGS celebrates the beauty and timelessness of raw, homemade synthpop recordings. TAPE RECORDINGS' plan is to continue reissuing obscure proto-electro music, but will also consider contemporary music that maintains the true DIY spirit and aesthetic of synthpop/punk circa '78-'82. ___________________________________________________________________ SECTION-005: top 12 - does not include suction-related releases -.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.- 1. the BASSLINE from: felix da housecat - "madame hollywood" (track, emperor norton) 2. legowelt - "disco rout" (track, ghostly international) 3. adult. - "nite life" (track, ghostly international) 4. kitbuilders - "wake up" (lp, world electric) 5. it & my computer - "sur une cigarette" (12", creme organization) 6. charles manier - "bang bang lover" (track, ghostly international) 7. adult. - "limited edition" (7", ersatz audio) 8. steril - "white-dressed domina" (track, lazergun) 9. dexter - "i program" (track, clone) 10. nancy fortune - "the secret life of" (12", viewlexx) 11. stuktur - "0" (track, citizens paralleles) 12. boards of canada - "geogaddi" (lp, warp) ___________________________________________________________________ thankyouforchoosingsuctionrecordsgoodbye. -- gregory de rocher suction records http://www.suctionrecords.com PO BOX 867 31 Adelaide St. East Toronto, Ontario M5C 2K1 Canada --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
