I thought "Composure" was pretty clubby, not really CR or dub inspired...
forgive me, Force is very hit or miss with me... (understand that I
oscillate back and forth from being burnt out on Force releases... we get,
literally, 2-3 Force and Mille Plateaux titles in a month at least, and
sometimes if a title isn't either different or of excellent quality, it
doesn't stick out)
Anyhow, some more CR-inspired stuff... in addition to the more well-known
slew of laptop technicians which have already been mentioned, but there's a
crowd of people coming from very cold lands which I've been quite into of
late. There's an excellent CD out now by an Icelandic gentleman who goes by
the alias of "Yagya", which is on Force Inc. (not lab), very much reminds me
of Porter Ricks (not a comparison I dole out often). Also of note is the
release by Deadbeat called "primordia". The whole substractif label (such
as it is, with only 3 releases) is also of exceptional quality, Mitchell
Akiyama, Thomas Jirku and especially Tim Hecker's "Haunt me, Haunt me, Do it
again" are also great. Seriously, go out and buy one of the Substractif
titles, the Yagya, and the Deadbeat, you can't go wrong. (Also vertical
form, ~scape labels)
Andrei (greetings from up the street ;) ): Yeah, Vladislav Delay, especially
the year around "ele" (during which he released, what, 7 albums, or
something absurd), lots of elements are re-used and it's a bit ambiguous
what links can be drawn from one release to another. Albums which have the
same title as a track name, but the track appears first on another release,
it's really quite confusing, somebody needs to draw me a diagram. The vinyl
being mixed so differently than his CD releases doesn't help things, either.
My fave is still "vapaa muurari live", with a few kick ass ~scape style dub
workouts... "Anima" has also really grown on me, but for different reasons,
it's this overwhelming freeform jam which just spills out over the span of
an hour.
Various artists also had a 12" called, I think, "1-7" on CR, which I had to
buy (albiet cheaply) from germany.
Back to the coffee, too much schlitz and COPs-like shows last night, I gotta
knock that shit off.
