sonig newsletter 2002
can this year can be worse than the previous one? until this question
has been superseded by an even more frightening one, we're going to
continue our work here, getting bogged down in as many things as
possible. and so we'd like to wish our friends and customers a clear
head and all the very best for what's in store in 2002.
there are new tracks from f.x.randomiz and scratch pet land: an
exclusive track by those nintendo (
http://www.emulation.net/)
veterans, scratch pet land, appears on the gameboy compilation
"nanoloop" (
http://www.nanoloop.de/ released by
http://www.disco-bruit.de), whereas f.x. randomiz has provided the
rare exclusive track "danuni" for the native instruments compilation
"native lab" (
http://www.nativeinstruments.de/). although vert's
track for the native instruments werkschau appeared on his
magnificent "nine types of ambiguity" (sonig17), there's now an
exclusive mp3 download available: "all the better to see with you".
(

we'd like to take this opportunity to single out the fabulous
workshop lp "es liebt dich und deine koerperlichkeit, ein
ausgeflippter" once again, now accompanied by a video by uli goeken &
anja theissmann. the clip is currently being featured on the new
channel viva plus, which unfortunately can't replace viva 2, but
which intends to run the video a lot late at night. "es liebt dich
und deine koerperlichkeit, ein ausgeflippter" has garnered a host of
press accolades and was also cited in an article in the faz, together
with the latest blumfeld and mutter lp's as the three most
outstanding german releases of 2001. workshop are also big in japan,
the band being celebrated in a two page article in buzz 11/2001. the
track "für wen?" can be found on the latest wire tapper (wire1/2002).
check out workshop on blue chopsticks/drag city in the usa and on
tokuma in japan.
scratch pet land have a new, computer-generated video to accompany
their track "escargot couleurs". the video was made by the french
artist collective gubo gas (
http://www.qubogas.com/) and focuses on
such themes as life, taking walks and the human vice of wanting to
take a picture of everyone and everything.
and just as nobody was really thinking about it anymore, there it was
on the net - the soundbreeder. this intricate game, which involves
the breeding of one's own sound-entities and sound-societies can be
found at
http://www.mouseonmars.com/7.html and is to date the most
developed of all the mouse on mars sound interfaces. the soundbreeder
keeps you occupied for hours and amazes you with a seemingly
infinite number of sound variations and possible permutations. yet
another one of prof. covarpa's masterpieces. please be patient when
loading.
some ten years after their classic collaboration "slow" and going by
the name of due, f.x. randomiz and jan st.werner are releasing a new
single. "transformation 19 mal einfach hergestellte musik in 6 mal
kompliziert hergestellt einfache musik" contains music which the two
of them have worked on independently between 1997 and 2001. the
tracks will only be available on a 7" single in the usa and europe,
whereas in japan the track will be released in cd single format.
two previously deleted, but nonetheless important experimental lp's
"für cleo" and "nagual" on hajsch's quiet artworks label, will be
released for the first time on the cd "1992" . for more information
on hajsch, please go to his homepage at
http://www.hajsch.de. the cd
