Re: Basic Channel... I highly recommend: Porter Ricks "Biokinetics" (Chain Reaction) (it's a bit more 4 on the floor but really really good stuff) Vladislav Delay "Multila" (Chain Reaction) his "crinkliest" release, very dense... i prefer this largely over "Entain" although both are good. his newest one "Naima" is really really good too, working more with voice samples and atmospheres though. Rhythm & Sound s/t (Chain Reaction) (a bit more dub influenced) Monolake "Gobi"/"Cinemascope" (Monolake) Jan Jelinek "Loop finding jazz records" (~scape) a bit more 4/floor but really nice as well, the most ambient/warm of his projects (aka Farben, Gramm) Gas "Zauberberg" (Mille Plateaux) probably my favorite of the Gas releases, very dark. Kit Clayton's "Nek Sanvalet" CD on ~scape is pretty good, very similar to Pole. Phon.o's stuff is more techno but shares qualities of V.Delay and some of the CR crowd... ditto for Sutekh. also I would recommend checking out the Chain Reaction "...compiled" CD which is more techno sounding but has the typical CR sound in full effect, really nice stuff. as for Akufen, he's pretty different from BC/CR. I would recommend his LP on Perlon called "Quebec Nightclub" which is outside. His 12" on Background ("Dada") is good as well, but not quite as accomplished as it preceded QN. I would recommend the "Montreal Smoked Meat" compilation on Force Inc. which includes a new track by Akufen alongside Mitchell Akiyama, Steve Beaupr?, etc. etc. and it's pretty good overall, though stronger towards the start. As someone mentioned, the Forcelab "Composure" comp is pretty good as well.
