No, what makes Puff Daddy's re-works bad is that he
raps over them. "Uh, uh, fuck yeah" ... um, no
thanks. Re-working originals can be cool. For
example, the "electronica" wave of the mid-90's
brought some cool remakes of a lot of old music, like
the big-beat swing in the Gap ads (so shoot me, i
liked it), and 10-million remixes of the James Bond
theme. And Orbital recently re-made the Doctor Who
theme, which totally kicked ass.
And Bit_Meddler just rocks, period.
But none of these people kill the original music by
rapping or singing over it, reducing it to nothing
more than background music for their own inane
ramblings.
