But there are new genres popping up everywhere just now, generally they do
seem to be mishmashes of glitch and anything (although I'm happy with this
until we get Country and Western Glitch), but I feel the point is that
although the mixing thing was done in '90s we've now got a many new elements
to start with.
Personally I think that the next big thing will be, irritatingly, fusion of
electronic click-hop and crap mainstream dance vocals, like Bjork but much
more R&B/soul styled. Herbert comes close to this at times, but his stuff is
still to good for a mainstream audience.
In the IDM (cringe) whirlpool, my personal favourite for win is Venetian
Snares too. His stuff on "doll doll doll" is much better than his earlier
stuff (mainly due to better diversity and more interesting developments) and
hopefully he'll evolve through the gabber style stuff into something more
comfortably listenable and still as insane. I hope that Chris Clarke
releases something good soon, that cements him in firmly as a future
direction.
