Well, Warp and Mu records, both better get themselves sorted out soon, as Ant Zen are quickly replacing them at the cutting edge of electronica/IDM...and it isn't even due to the artists on the labels...its the image too... I went to the two recent V. Snares gigs in London (2 nights in a row, helps to compare, lots) - the first night, was a Warp night, with Mike Paradinas and a bunch of other Warp folk about...the second night was an Ant Zen night, with Stephan (head Ant himself) DJing and some other acts... First night was dull...lots of pretencious folk, in lo-fi dress (well arranged clothing, in a shabby style) - general vibe, was of a private view at a really head-up-your-own-arse art show...V. Snares got little reaction out of the crowd...drug of choice for the evening, by most folk, was charlie...of course... Second night was great...good support before V. Snares, apart from the DJ just before, who is the resident @ the Slimelight (the name of the night, they were playing at) ...he played the usual cyber-goth rubbish, with the odd bit of Converter/Hypnoskull type stuff thrown in, to keep the crowd from falling asleep...but the crowd were generally up for it...and the dancefloor was full of maniacs jumping around, and enjoying themselves, not standing at the side, scratching their chins (with the appropriate hairs attached in the Frank Zappa style that suits)...V. snares was wicked...took the last trancey style track that was being played, screwed it about, and just messed with the crowd until they stopped dancing, then did his thing... As for an acid revival...what about Ceephax Acid Crew (Squarepusher's brother, I believe) - he's doing a fine job there... :) RoNAn --- Glenn McClements <glenn.mcclements@openwave.com> wrote: > >
