I'm surprised people ever liked that "Oval/Autechre
Nicey Nice Shit" anyway... Well, I don't see the
connection between Oval & Autechre, as Autechre are
good and Oval is boring, but whatever.
I don't think V.Snares is the next big thing. A) I
don't like his work (I just don't like gabber or
hardcore stuff in general, really). B) he's too
difficult for the masses. C) There won't be a "next
big thing". There are no more "next big things". IDM
and indie culture in general is fractured and in a
metaphysical psychosocial
architecturalstructurehumpingclusterfuck disarray.
And why didn't we ever decide to just tell everyone
that IDM meant Independent Dance Music instead of
always complaining how dumb "Intelligent" was? And if
you don't like the "Dance" part, just say the D stands
for Dweeb, it'll clear everything up for everyone.
Not that I care what the next big thing is anyway.
Which is why there are no more next big things.
Nobody cares anymore. All the masturbatory
mirrorgazing trendfollowers can follow their little
trends off into a corner and die. Me, I'll just try a
bit of everything and make my own little radio station
to listen to my favorite stuff.
So, no, V.Snares has already had his moment in the sun
and has his little following of acidgabberheads
(mostly just fans of Planet Mu), and if Warp picks him
up that's their problem.
And if avantgardehiphop blows up, well HA! Hip-hop's
been around 30-odd fucking years now, who the hell
cares? indie will kill everything it loves. If IDM
wants to be hiphop now, so be it. I mean, hey, I like
the clouddead CD ok.
But I listen to Leafcutter John a lot more.
And anyway, everybody knows Kid606 is the shit.
