Venetian Snares is the tip of the iceberg in a whole genre of what I call 'post-drop-bass-post-gabber-hardcore' that has grown up around the milwaukee/madison scene. Guys like Dan Dormouse, Snares, SubstanceP, Bombadier, are all off on their own making really extreme, but very creative music. Nothing I want to listen to all the time but it's a very creative corner of 'the scene.' But is that the 'next big thing?' don't know. I think people will begin experimenting with more live instrumentation. There's a trend in a lot artists to take a step back from crazy drum programming to try and find new ways of working with simpler beats -- this has a hip-hop side (boards of canada) and a techno side (PS I Love You Kid606) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
