hellothisisalex,
Last night I got my copy of the book version--very nice little package (CD
size hardcover booklet with a series of manipulated photos and film stills
that connect to the cover, perhaps they are included with the regular CD
too?)
My initial impressions upon first listen were very favourable, similar to
when I first put on In a beautiful place... . Having listened to it a
couple times now, I would say that I think this is a more cohesive work than
Music has the right. It seems to flow better, with the short interludes
being more integral to the work as a whole than before. I really here a
continuation of Music has the right, but without making the album redundant.
It reminds me of the kind of continuation you might hear comparing Revolver
to Sgt. Pepper or Today! to Pet Sounds.
The standout tracks for myself are Music is Math, Julie and Candy, 1969,
Alpha and Omega, Dawn Chorus (my fave). I also seem to feel that the
stronger tracks on this release seem to be stronger as a whole than on Music
has the right, but they also complement the album better, without stealing
too much of the spotlight from the overall album as a whole. The drum
tracks on this release are more developed as well--they flow with the music
better, and refuse to entirely dominate a song like they occasionally did on
Music has the right.
That's my opinion.
cheers,
Mark & Melissa
