I beg to differ. In my opinion Nighttime World Vol2. will go down as a classic. It was Robert Hoods intent to make this album sound "synthetic" and modern utilizing synths. This is a very unique and unconventional/ experimental techno album. > there is no reason for the record to >exist because hood excelled at the minimal stuff (i.e. internal empire) and >if i want real lounge jazz, there are plenty of records to be bought. It's not supposed to sound like "real" lounge jazz, that would be conventional and boring. > i >don't have a problem with artists changing their style, even drastically. >however, i would still think the lp is weak if it was put out by someone >i'd >never heard, or if it was the first hood lp that i was exposed to. You need to listen to Nighttime World Vol1. on Cheap, it may give you a better perspective on Nighttime World Vol2. > >Metropolis, I thought, was okay, but it never really got me very > >excited. >the ambient tracks could've been on any film soundtrack from the >1980s....again, if i want ambient/soundscape music there is a ton of stuff >out there that is a thousand time better. the 4/4 tracks are boring >rehashes >for the most part and don't really add anything to the style mills has >developed/refined/adhered to on countless 12"s. I agree although I must admit I'm a bit bias with Mills work unless your talking about the old UR/ WPA. His Metropolis soundtrack sounds a little to modern 90's techno for an old silent movie. I thought Metropolis Vol1-Vol2 and the Every Dog series are solid efforts but not as spectacular as some people are making them out to be. On a similar note Jeff Mills gives a preview of Every Dog Vol.3 on his internet radio show http://www.electronicdir.com/ I enjoyed some of his track selection and mixing, he played Drug Test by K- Alexi. very nice. stephen techno purist. http://pages.prodigy.net/stevepwats/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
