Check out the recent recording of Rachmaninov's "Piano Concerto No.2" with Helene Grimaud as pianist, conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Philharmonia Orchestra. Absolutely blinding. (And she's a bit of a babe too!) Here's the entry at Amazon UK, containing various sound clips: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000058BAY/ Check out Grimaud's rendition of Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No.4" too: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00001SIBN/ Obviously not as minimalist/wonky as the Chris Clark/Aphex stuff, but this is where I ended up after being inspired by pretty much the say IDM-ish piano stuff as you, so you may get as much a kick out of it as I do! It's really deepened my appreciation of classical music too -- as a result of getting into all these piano concertos, I've been exploring other stuff too -- currently edging my way into choral stuff. -- Mark Stevens http://www.insertdisc.com/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
