Despite your obvious misjudgment of Jeff Lynne and ELO, it's not only true
that he extensively used back masking, but that he even devoted an entire
album (sort of) to the subject "Secret Messages". granted it's probably one
of his very worst efforts, but there it is...
On a sort of related subject, there was (is?) an apocalyptic cult leader
named Dr. Elizabeth Profett, whose sect performed strange chants about the
evils of rock music. Funny thing is they sound like Steve reich pieces.
There's an album of their records available on teh mysterious "Faithways
label"....
