First, a disclaimer: I work for EMusic.com.
Everything is encoded at 128kbs. When we started out, broadband was not
yet ubiquitous and we wanted a balance between file size and quality.
A reencode at a higher bitrate (possibly VBR) has been on our wishlist
for some time, but currently we're in the middle of being absorbed into
Vivendi Universal and most feature development has been put on hold
while we do the systems integration. *sigh*
Still, you could do a lot worse than $10 a month for all you can
download...
My apologies for acting like a shill. I'm just stoked because we're
starting to get a pretty good assortment of music that _I_ like to
listen to.
