anybody get a chance to check out the new chain reaction label 12" by Shinichi Atobe? I'm not familiar with anything that Shinichi Atobe has done but if it's on Chain Reaction that it's probabaly worth checking out. any comments about this record or anything else Shinichi Atobe had done? here is the writeup on it from the pelicanneck mailout... SHINICHI ATOBE : Ship Scope - Chain Reaction - 12" So, at the 11th hour, we finally get the first Chain Reaction release for 2001. It's hard to overestimate the importance of this label and so it comes as little surprise that this debut release by Shinichi Atobe is as sublime as it is. The opening 'Ship-Scope' is a melodic beatless affair, a fog-of tones and keys wrapped up in velvet space echoes and cushioned pads filled with nothing but warmth and space. 'Plug And Delay' kicks things off in-ernest : ludicrously deep grooves and dubby synth stabs - so far so Chain Reaction - but the aquatic undercurrent of the groove is decidedly new; layered hi-end percussion and tangy synth drops giving this a head-jerk quality. Superb. 'Rainstick' finishes the side off with a bright and crisp ambient beat interlude, washed out with a quasi-electroid/quasi-Detroit vibe. Turn over to the flip, however, and the reason why this is one of the most influential labels of recent years becomes perfectly clear. 'The Red Line' is astonishing - starting off with a pure 4/4 beat and some shimmering melodies, the track builds into something deeply dreamy, uplifting and always subtle, a host of melody-interplays and that unique-sounding bubble hiss that makes all Basic Channel/Chain Reaction releases so devestating. This is just one of those records - deep listening required. Awesome. -- -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
