Ok, so nothing cutting edge, but yesterday and today have been good days
for music.
Yesterday, two things came in the mail:
Gescom's "Keynell" on cd.
I picked it up because I don't want to wear out the vinyl, and I like
having a portable copy. Still sounds great, and I've been a Keynell fan
for a long time. It's still amazing how influencial the Ae boys have been,
listening to this [relatively old] stuff.
Phonem's "The Mechanical Verses" on 2x12"
I have some Phonem mp3's, which were pretty good sometimes, and sort of
mediocre at other times, but there was enough good stuff to warrant picking
this up before it disappeared. And, I'm happy I did. Thumpy beats with
nice variations and a lot of attention paid to detail. It's funky and
"intelligent" at the same time, without having to resort to time stretching
or destroying the groove. My only gripe is that it's so good, I don't want
to stop boppin' in order to flip the records :D
And today, one thing came in the mail:
Muslimgauze's "Gun Aramaic"
It's also pretty good. More ambient than the other Muslimgauze that I own,
but still very much the work of Mr. Jones. Sort of a dark, minimalist,
middle-eastern vibe, drifting in and out of ambient washes and growing
percussion. I dig it.
So that's all. Sorry it's all old, but it's what's new here.
derek
