a lot of the stuff i've been doing myself has that same flavor. was
thinking for a long time that it was sort of substandard and shitty, but
then i found i really do enjoy it for certain things. seems to me i read an
interview with mira calix some time ago that said as a youngster she only
had access to cassette tapes and the subsequent compression that comes with
magnetic audio media, and that has a great deal of influence on how she
works. made me feel a little justified, and so does some aphex. i dig.
not to say that crispy hi-fi is second rate, just that there's a place for
everything.
