ACAPULCO continues to highlight / showcase artists and music that knows no boundaries or limitations both technologically and in spirit . ELECTRONIC music for the mind , the heart , not forgetting the feet . Electronic - based jazz (futurejazz) , minimal , stripped down house (micro-house) as well as the dubby end of techno (dub-techno) . October sees a live set by one of the most interesting as well as exciting producers of electronic based music ; Portable ; in between d.j sets by Lakuti and Portable . PORTABLE emerged out of the ruins of a post-apartheid era . He grew up in the in the impoverished Cape Town township ; Bonteheuwel , ironically renamed , "Beverly Hills" . As a teenager in the late eighties ; he would spend time at makeshisft shebeens (illegal bars) that doubled as clubs . At these shebeens , D.j's , despite apartheid sanctions , managed to find tracks such as "Dub Love" by Master C+J , The Housemaster Boys' " House Nation" , Adonis' "No Way back" e.t.c . The raw basement feel of these tracks would have an impact on the music Portable would later produce. In 1994 , Portable signed to a local label , Teal Trutone Records and released "Dance Freedom" ; an album specially made to coincide with the 1st democratic elections in South Africa . The music came from the township house scene (kwaito) ; that was fast capturing the new mood in the townships . In 1997 , Portable and his long time collaborator , Lakuti relocated to London . Their dj sets have captured many a people who have cometo any of the events held in locations such as an old disused wood factory , the basement of a hairdresser , a disused fire station , clubs such as Plastic People , Mass e.t.c. July 2001 saw Portable and Lakuti launch Acapulco which has seen live sets from an international roster of producers ,who are making an impact in new electronica . October sees the release of "Patterns and Signals" on the superb San Francisco based electronic label , Context.Fm http://context.fm/07.html which will be followed by an album ,in February 2002 .
