the history of dub/reggae is full of mis-credited releases. I've got
multiple versions of some records where the US release will have tracks
credited to completely different people than the UK release. It was a
culture based on re-use and trading of rhythms so things were bound to get
confusing. It's about as confusing as collecting Sun Ra records.
I would highly recommend reading "People Funny Boy", the biography of Lee
Perry (written by David Katz). Not only does it provide a in-depth history
of Perry, but also provides info on everyone he came across (ie. pretty much
anyone who was anyone in Jamaican music).
Oh and my classic dub suggestion...
Scientist : Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of The Vampires
classic heady stuff, and I would rate the cover as one of the best ever.
Scientist on that swamp boat with his big ass sound system chasing all the
evil creatures.
Not on the dub tip, but relevant, the new Blood and Fire collection "Darker
Than Blue" is killer. American soul tracks as recorded by Jamaican artist.
The version of Bill Withers "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" is
incredible.
