herbert's "bodily functions" is my #1 album this year, and will likely remain so. hands down. i wish i had enough money to be able to buy it for every one of my friends. it's that kind of record. drew's "soft pink truth," similarly, is one of my absolute favorite singles this year. i just love what that guy can do with house music -- sorta halfway between perlon and herbert, between theo parrish and, i dunno, richard devine? i know that's a bit of a flippant summation (that will likely annoy people from both camps), but what i'm trying to get at is the way he straddles the line between deep soul and digital fuckery.... sort of like a more IDM recloose, with a little DBX thrown in there.
speaking of recloose, the sampler 12" on his OMOA music label is fucking fantastic, if not terribly this-listy. two tracks of deep broken business, and one kinda sad soulful downtempo thing. if you dig his shit, or west london tracks, or any of the between, grab it.
cheers
