i believe the javanese (?) gamelan orchestra is not tuned "very generally, for example close to A" but rather specifically, just not in tune with the traditional western scale or even note pitches. also the "weird warbly" effects that it produces I think are harmonics which come out from the combination of pitches. and yes, the traditional gamelan music can be very arhythmic and mellow (call it boring, i understand) but it's a very cool sound to add to your own sound-collage experiments, my tastes prefer ones with some kind of pulse or beat to it. a rare post, matt ps i'm behind in reading the posts so my apologies if somethink akin to this has already been posted. pps BOC eagle in your (my?) mind absolutely blows my shit away.
