much better to have less music.... Couldnt agree more if its quality(yeah-yea, thats relative). Here's my thing. The glowing obvious is that B12 are great artists, who tried to do something that many wouldn't. That alone to me says a great deal, because now, many of the people who make the music are solely into it for the cash/fame(for those of you who aren't---great---dont change). I'd take their old stuff, unreleased stuff perhaps remixes or whatever. It seems that people always look for NEWER things and, as you pointed out, the newer typically doesnt compare. In this mad dash for something "new", quality/substance gets pushed to the wayside, and the "new and improved" emerges. If you listen to Jazz, per se, Woody Shaw, Lee Morgan or Freddie Hubbard werent greats because the always did something "new", na-nah, it was because the had a particular/distinct sound that could be heard and felt in each piece that they blew. There "own" sound! That, to me, is what made B12 what they where and what they are. That's called art(this is just a discussion so I dont want to jump off the intellectual spring board and into the pool of frivolous argumentation)! Who's got it these days, sure there are some, but with the wanting of something "new" the artist, if he/she changes, looses something. Take for example Stasis and his move toward hip-hop.....I dont care for it, doesnt mean its not good, but where is the "Stasis" sound/trademark? And then there is the other side of the coin, lets take Churchill, here's a guy who only makes a few tracks(which is the general point Eggy T. was making) for the sake of quality. That's art! Each track by Churchill, not everyone, but about 90% to me, is smoking! He's all over the board though, mostly House-ish tunes, but some middish to downtempo tunes that are stellar just as well---with his OWN sound. I'd tell him dont change his philosophy even if the whole world went against him............ People always spout "change is good".......Bullshit, if you change from bad to worse, that's not good.....it depends upon the direction of change........ Nothing "new" is needed....just that gorgeous, wonderful B12 sound, thats all(old or "new")........ Np, CiM, "relaxing at home".......CiM is another who has his OWN sound. O-jax!!
