wow... great show last night at the MIT. got there and was informed that while would not be playing, due to some computer malfunction or something like that. i was pretty disappointed about that, seeing as how that was the main reason i had shown up. i had never heard twine, and didn't really know what to expect from a live oval show. well, twine did some nice stuff - nice rhythms, cool vocal samples, especially this one bit that sounded like voices made of steel chopping through the speakers. after twine was girl talk, who had been called in to fill some time since while and cassette didn't make it. they were umm... interesting. i don't know much about them, or the joysticks (their previous gig, from what i understand). basically they just fucked around with pop songs and motion sensitive drumsticks. with some freestyling thrown in. they were only on for about ten minutes. mercifully. so oval comes up, and i was amazed at how animated he was throughout the show. bouncing back and forth between laptop and mixer/effects thingy, and obviously very into what he was doing. i hadn't heard commers before going to the show, so as i said earlier, i wasn't really sure what i'd be hearing. it was much more moving than i had expected, and a whole lot heavier. but beautiful at the same time. and unlike what i had heard from this list in the past, he wasn't the least bit rude or unpersonable after his set. a bit shy, maybe, but he talked with people the whole time he was packing up, even showing people his equipment, etc... so of course i picked up commers but haven't had time to hear the whole thing, and of course the stuff i recognize sounded way better when it was moving right through you. great show. getting all excited about next week's show with marumari, colongib, octopus inc, and someone else whose name i can't quite remember. alan! np:mmw:the dropper --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
