Don't believe the horror stories about harman kardon I have a 6 year old AVR20 reciever which still operates flawlessly. . Look on ebay you can get an AVR20 or AVR45 for about $150. As far as CD players go the HK FLA3850 5 disc is luscious. Even bad CDs sound good on it. You can get one on ebay for less than 100$ or at harmanaudio.com. DON'T buy a new one. get one refurbished by HK there was a tiny defect that caused it to misread CDs that HK has fixed and a refurbished unit is about one third the price of a new one and sounds exactly the same. Of course you won't really notice that big of a difference unless you have good speakers(infinity!!!!) and good cables. Get the infinity RS 3s or the rs4s with the built in sub if you have the cash.
