Before you read the subject line, roll your eyes, fold your arms, and
turn around, here me out. I'm figuring "Rooty" is a superior follow-up to
the debut "Remedy" for several reasons that might appeal to some here.
There were only a couple of tracks off "Remedy" I thought unique and
interesting.. which were "Yo Yo" and "Same Old Show", the darker, weirder
tracks. And there was an intermediate single called "Camberwell" which
was even weirder. "Rooty" seems to have gone more in that direction,
thankfully.
There are more vocals on this album, so if you have a problem with vocals
from the start, you can stop reading now... And there are still a few
songs on "Rooty" that don't excite as much, but it's more an exception
than a pattern this time. "Romeo", "Breakaway", "Get Me Off", and
"Where's Your Head At" are all among the Jaxx's best tracks to date.
Then again, I like "One More Time", so judge my tastes and adjust mileage
accordingly. Also Stateside, Basement Jaxx are as obscure as anyone else
we talk about on this list... whereas I'm sure the UK gang here is sick of
all the hype.
