yeah. i've heard a bunch of that stuff. well, i actually like Confield, but i'd have to say i find myself taking a deep breath before popping it on. (I feel the same way about Puccini.) like any of the stuff you've mentioned, it yields if you approach it on its own terms. the fact that Confield has drums throughout and melodies here and there distinguish it from more abstract kinds of electronic music. still, the endless computer-generated variations of most of the tracks are exhausting to pay constant attention to. it reminds me of listening to John Cage's music: one has to work to pay attention to all sorts of details despite the lack of intention behind those details. some of the 12K stuff is actually easier to listen to, tending towards shorter pieces, often with some clear central idea. so, yeah, that first Confield track is quite pretty in a Music for Airports kind of way (once you've gotten used to the damn bouncing ball), and there are other, similarly accessable, stretches of Confield. but, on the whole, i find it a challenging listen. k --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
