Yes i've had this release for awhile now and after a few listens it still holds my interest. It's features three tracks clocking in at just over 20 minutes all much warmer and organic sounding than what you would expect from the Raster-Noton label. The first track. 'Open,' is an 8-minuted drone based piece with subtle clicky gurgles and percussions over the top. The next track, 'Close,' features warm beds of symphonic strings with subtle glitches & sound manipulations. It also sounds like there are some field recordings in the background as well. The final track, also called 'Open,' sounds like a mix of the first two tracks but with looped strings and more predominant yet still stuble percussions. My biggest complaint with this ep is the brevity of it. Each of the three tracks would have been much better if they were 3 to 4 times as long. But i guess it better to leave you wanting more than to tire you of a track. You really cant compare this release to any of the To Rococo Rot or Tarwater material which are far more developed and structurally advanced than this album. But i've not heard any of the Mapstation material so i cant compare it to that sound. Overall 'Open Close Open' is a nice release - nothing groundbreaking or extraordinary but a nice listen nonetheless. I just wish there was just more music for the money... You can check some mp3 samples of this release at the Raster-Noton website: www.raster-noton.de Hope this helps. -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States -->-Lance---- PO Box 450715 Westlake, OH 44145 United States --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
