I had a good time at the show, though it looks pretty obvious to me that
neither Plaid nor Squarepusher was doing very much "live", nor anything
very different from what is available in your local record shop. Come on
my Selector, in particular, sounded like someone just popped the CD in
the player and piped it through the bass-heavy PA. Also disappointing
that Tom didn't whip out a bass and start funking out -- hopefully he can
get his hands on one that passes muster and lay it down at subsequent
shows.
The Plaid set was beatier and dancier than I expected. I saw more people
shaking it in the balconies because the main floor was just PACKED and
nobody had room to do more than nod their heads and stroke their chins,
or whatever.
This was the loudest and indeed smelliest show I've ever attended at
Great American Music Hall. I don't think it was BO, however -- lots of
chronic being passed around in the crowd. Bad news for me since I'm
terribly allergic to the second-hand smoke.
