Ugh. I'm kind of sick of hearing all this stuff about people being upset
about IDM musicians up on stage being kind of gawky and just sitting there
with their laptops. News flash! They're NERDS. Most IDM kids are pretty
smart and grew up with lots of computer ability but a lack of social skills.
When I played my last show on Saturday night, I had a lot of people (well,
about 5-6, the entire crowd) standing over my shoulder looking at what I
was doing. I invited this, because I actually DO STUFF on stage, even
though it may look to the crowd like I'm just checking my e-mail. Whatever.
I know there are some people out there who just sit on stage and do
nothing, and these people aren't really being "live." But I am sure there
are an equal number of people who sit up there with their laptops looking
like they are doing nothing, while they are in fact doing SOMETHING.
Don't think that all IDMers are wankers just 'cause they are socially
awkward and would rather be with their computers than traipsing around on
stage. :) I'd rather hear good music with still musicians (like an
orchestra or a folk singer) than see goofy antics with no content any day
of the week. If you all say you like the music, why do you need to be
entertained otherwise?
