Yes, and to continue I would like to say that I read *so much* about the
artists getting ripped off and the record labels getting ripped off, but I
never hear anything ever about the consumer getting ripped off.
Seriously, if you could pick up a domestic cd in the store for $8.99 with
case and artwork would you even bother trying to get it from Napster?
Furthermore, if you already had it from Napster and were really impressed
with it, wouldn't you pay the $8.99 and pick up the full high-quality
recording in the store? And, if they sold a version for $13.99 that included
extra information on the CD such as artist bios, pictures maybe a quicktime
movie of the hit single - wouldn't that be even more worth it?
For clarification I would like to add that I'm not actually speaking about
any of us here in the underground expeimental electronica world. I'm mainly
speaking about mainstream pop music. Shit you hear every day on MTV.
Although I don't frequent Napster myself, from what I've heard all "our
music" goodies are still there.
On another note (since I'm on a complete rant here) it looks like there is
going to be a class-action lawsuit by the artists themselves against Napster
as well.
