I would agree with him, actually. Considering that throughout time, people (read: general public) have responded pretty well to what is marketed to them, it is safe to assume that if mikrosopht decides that .wma files are the way to go (i.e. they're smaller, cleaner, and SAFER than mp3s), they will push it and make it the de-facto standard. Small subgroups will always have their own formats that they use. I know that phish concert-goers are very very keen on lossless compression, so they are into .sht files. And IDMers may be into 192KBPs mp3s. Who knows? Either way, if a company has the muscle to advertise and push a product, it seems that it will sell/people will buy it. ------------ though, on a side note, wma IS superior to mp3 in compression and sound quality. It's kind of disturbing that mikrosopht is behind it though, which is why I don't like it. :^/ There are bad things planned for our future of privacy, I'm sure (just read 2600 or /. ) mmmmhmm. I'm probably going to be ripped apart, but that is the IDM board. yaaay! john / pro(xy) http://www.themurphyfamilyonline.com/john / pro(xy) mp3s n gif art --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
