Machine Drum is great live, and so is Richard Devine. There is an art to live electronic performance- and it's not just about "looking busy" they're playing that shit live from the source- Music doesn't just occur out of thin air [or does it?;)] There's a high degree of organization- making sure that everything goes through as planned. Next time someone says that live electronic music is a pharce- tell them to immediately print and present whatever the fuck it is that they're working on. -----Original Message----- From: activity@activaire [mailto:activity@activaire.com] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 2:43 PM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: [idm] live is always great Electronic music always sounds better "live" because it is closer to its original source. Each time a sounds is processed, re-recorded, or dubbed, it loses something. So even though the records are produced well, the sounds coming directly from the lap-top are more pure. This takes us to the root of electronic music, and computers, and even our daily work. Nothing is as simple as pressing a button. Also-it's great to meet the musicians. I suppose some shows have more energy than others- Phonem is amazing live, as well as Patcha Kutek. Fucking awesome. -----Original Message----- From: Jeremy Axon [mailto:jeremya@objectools.com] Sent: Monday, April 09, 2001 11:22 AM To: idm@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [idm] What do you expect from IDM musicians on stage?
quoted 3 lines Its important what comes out the speakers, not what is on stage.>>Its important what comes out the speakers, not what is on stage. > >then why go see them live?
hmm I don't know maybe some live improv, new and/or unique material and a chance to meet them. Does that answer your question? j-a- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
