speaking of esa ruoho... if you're a fan of his lackluster stuff (or even if you're not), then hurry up and track down a copy of his new 7" released on the rikos label. I know this thing is pretty limited, and is almost as rare as rocking horse poop already, so don't delay! four awesome tracks (33rpm will allow for this, even on a 7")..."01/10/00" is a gorgeous laidback (or "downtempo" if you wanna be pc) groove packed with all the melody you'd expect from lackluster. "07/05/00" (my personal favorite) is bitter/sweet because of how short it is...it's a pretty simple track that starts off with a nice reverbed-out melody (that plays throughout the song), then the drum track kicks in, and if you're not at least nodding your head at this point, then you've got issues! it's one of those tracks that you want to last for a while...so I'm left wanting more every time. (I asked esa about it, and he said it was an unfinished track, so there you go). the b-side's got a couple bootie shakin' jams that (of course) don't fall short in the melody department either. "18/10/99" is another one that's almost too short for comfort. (I might be forced to record and loop these short ones for myself!!) and finally "26.05.00 (dear laurent)" is what I'd consider have a borderline electro vibe to it with nice flanged out little melodies sprinkled over it and wicked effected out vocal samples thrown in for good measure. this is by far my favorite lackluster release to date. cool artwork, too! =) also, keep an eye out for his forthcoming 7" on zeal: http://www.zealrecords.com/html/catalogue_zealectronic_2.html#lackuster check out the soundclips on the zeal site...it looks'n'sounds pretty nice. em.
